The Population of Kiev, Ukraine in 2020: A City with a Rich History and a Growing Concern for Bird Conservation

The city of Kiev, Ukraine has a rich history dating back to the 5th century. Today, it is one of the largest cities in Eastern Europe, with a population of over 3 million people as of 2020. With the support of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Ukraine developed detailed action plans on disease surveillance, laboratory systems, workforce development, biosafety and biosecurity, immunization, and other critical areas.

The CDC also works with Ukrainian partners to provide ongoing expertise across GHSA action packages. The organization focuses on strengthening surveillance and laboratory capabilities, enhancing public health emergency management operations, and improving data modernization systems. Additionally, the CDC's global public health security efforts in Ukraine aim at sustaining the prevention, detection, and response to infectious diseases, including antimicrobial resistant pathogens.
